I keep being asked, "When do you think that the real estate market is going to return to normal?" and the only answer that I have for people is truly when our spending habits within the general population of this country return to normal. There are people that no longer go out for dinners or simply out to the movies, as it is cheaper to stay at home and watch TV and make dinner. People are trying to be conservative on so many levels, but it is all hurting the local business and creating a bigger problem. We have to get back to a normal level of spending, going out, entertainment, normal purchasing and then you will see the real estate market rebound, it is all connected to the mindset of the American people and until that changes, neither will our market place.

First and foremost, declutter! Try to be as minimalistic as possible when it comes to selling your home. No one wants to walk into a home where you can barely move around because there are "things" everywhere. Organize and box away the extras.
It is very important to be clean! I can not stess how important it is to scrub the showers and baths, vaccum, wipe down surfaces and just have a clean home. So many people get comfortable in their own home, especially if they have pets with the fur and litter boxes, etc. You must keep this clean and you must keep the pet hair off of the furniture. Just because you are comfortable living a certain way, doesn't mean that everyone is. As a matter of fact, the number one complaint that I get when showing a house is that it was dirty. No one ever complains about a clean house. If a house is clean, people will stay longer and will feel comfortable and so the house will sell.
The overall appearance of a house is key. If there are scuff marks on the walls, it takes two minutes to use touch up paint and it will look like a whole new room. So many people will ignore the small details or even state that they can not paint. Well, it's a new year.....learn. It is really not hard to do a little work around the house and take pride in the house.
These are just a few things that will help your home sell in this marketplace.
